About 28 kilometres northwest of Abisko lies Rissájávri, better known as Trollsjön. In Sami, the name means “the lake that sparkles like fire.” The lake is reached by an easy hiking trail of about ten kilometres round trip, perfect for a day excursion.
The path winds through beautiful mountain scenery and leads into a six-kilometre-long valley where the lake rests like a turquoise gem. The water is so clear that you can see down to a depth of 36 metres.
Bring a packed lunch, take in the silence and scenery, and maybe enjoy a quick swim before heading back — an unforgettable moment in Arctic nature.
