Kebnekaise

Kebnekaise rises 2,096 metres above sea level and is Sweden’s tallest mountain. It has two main peaks: Nordtoppen, the northern summit, and Sydtoppen, which has a glacier that changes height with the seasons.

The hike to Kebnekaise usually starts from Nikkaluokta, about 70 kilometres from Kiruna. The trail to STF Kebnekaise Mountain Station is around 19 kilometres, with options for food along the way at the Enoks restaurant. From mid-June to mid-September, a boat also operates across Lake Láddjujávri, making the journey shorter and more scenic.

To reach the top, you can choose between two routes. The eastern trail is about 14 kilometres and includes some light climbing, while the western trail is longer at around 20 kilometres and requires more endurance. The reward is incredible views and a true sense of achievement.

Mountain weather can change quickly, so bring good clothing, enough food and be prepared for all conditions.
